CTCFD – Cape Town College of Fashion Design, who designed the white couture avant garde dresses that opened the Miss South Africa 2014 pageant was once again approached by Sun International to design and realise the National Costume worn by Ziphozake Zokufa at the Miss Universe pageant in Doral Miami this past weekend.

Designed by head of institution Gregg Maragelis, along with a small team of alumni, the dress used 12 metres of hand screen printed chiffon and over 40 000 beads and sequins. “We wanted to incorporate something uniquely South African – Ndebele beading,” Gregg explains. The colours in the beaded waist and neckpiece represented our rainbow nation while the zebra print seen in the dress represented South Africa’s incredible wildlife.

While Ziphozakhe did not progress as far in the pageant as her fans would have hoped, we at CTCFD are very proud of her. She carried herself with poise and beauty, as well as having a stunning personality.

We’re honoured to have had the chance to dress her!
